“The weather is still cold in most places right now, but we’re thinking spring and looking for contrasting colors that make hair shine, and cranberry chocolate has been a really popular combination for our dark hair beauties in the salon,” says Joi Rooks, owner of fresche salon in Atlanta, GA.
According to the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2015, Marsala is the color of the year. “Pairing what Pantone calls Marsala, or could be cranberry, with a dark chocolate gives a very decadent, rich color palette that's perfect for this transitional season,” adds Rooks.
Below, Rooks shares her formulas for two recent clients that wanted this gorgeous cranberry and dark chocolate hue.
Model 1
Base: Goldwell Topchic 4BV with 10 volume. Triangular sections were purposely used for this technique to pre-lighten with Goldwell Silk Lift and 20 volume. Hair was lifted up to a level 8 and then Goldwell Topchic 6RV with 10 volume was applied for about 20 minutes to add depth and color. Rooks always tops off her reds and vibrant colors with Elumen by Goldwell, this time using RR @all and VV @all mixed together to give a topcoat of shine and longevity to the color.
Model 2
Rooks took her client from a dark brown with grey to a cranberry red. She pre-lightened with Goldwell Oxycur and colored with Goldwell Topchic 6RV, then Elumen RR@all & VV@all.
