There's nothing better than ringing in the weekend with a stellar blow-out paired with an AMAZING back bar scalp massage! Last Friday, I visited the newly opened Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa in Beverly Hills, California, and oh my goodness, what a treat. Massimo--a stylist in for a month from Italy--treated my tresses to the new Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo, and let me tell you that my hair looked positively radiant all weekend. But my sheen-enhanced strands along with a fantastic blow-out weren't the best part of the experience; that honor belongs to Massimo's approximately 15-min. intensive scalp massage (I say "appoximately" because when one is induced into a state of euphoria, one tends to lose track of time). Massimo targeted pressure points around my face and neck, and did so while not saying a word. Even when I would ask a question about the products he was using, he'd respond simply and quickly, to avoid distracting me from relishing in relaxation. Once during my treatment, a client asked Massimo a question, and he also answered her with simple, quick responses, not wanting to take the focus off of me. While this may seem like an obvious thing to do (paying attention to the client at hand), I can recall a number of times when another stylist or a client unintentionally "takes over" my appointment, chit-chatting with my hairdresser and making me feel, consequently, like a third wheel.
It's so important to make a client feel special--and that doesn't just include giving them a fabulous cut, color or style. Clients look to you, the professional, to help them relax, and to help them feel better from the outside in. What better way to grant her this pleasure than by providing her with your undivided attention? Of course, this is something you probably already know. And I know. And Massimo knows.
