Get the Look: Bangs, Two Ways

Soft And Short

Bangs are always on trend for spring, because it’s one of the easiest ways to refresh almost any haircut. This season, both short and long bangs are coming back. Andrew Carruthers, Education Director for Sam Villa, suggests using a Sam Villa Signature Series Reversible Blending Shear to extract weight and add controlled texture.

“Try something new this spring! Use a blending shear to bring new dimension to these old favorites. Using a blending shear on a heavy blunt line keeps a slightly softer touch to the ends,” says Carruthers.

Short and Soft

  • Section a curved area from low point of recession on the right to low point of recession on the left about 1” back from hairline.
  • Cut a small piece as a guide at cheekbone on right side, at shortest point over the arch of the right eyebrow, and parallel with the lips on the left side.
  • Drape section from guide at right side to the arch of the brow into the wide teeth of Sam Villa Signature Series Short Cutting Comb for low tension.
  • Elevate slightly for softness and cut a curved line between the two guides with the Sam Villa Signature Series Reversible Blending Shear.
  • Repeat for left side.
  • Remove density from heavier areas with the Sam Villa Signature Series InvisiBlend Shear.

Long And Heavy

Long and Heavy

  • Section from just in front of the high point of the head to the low recession on both sides of the face.
  • Drape the hair into the wide teeth of the comb again for minimum tension - minimum tension allows for the natural growth patterns to stay more in natural position so there is no “spring back” effect from high tension.
  • Hold comb horizontally to create a strong visual guide, place blending shear in parallel to the comb and open and close while moving the shear side to side until hair is completely removed right above the top of the lashes.
  • Remove density only in the heaviest areas to create visual balance
