Wella's Master Styling Program Targets Techniques and Artistry

Oliver Shortall Wella Studio Signature Artist

Wella’s latest education program, The Master Styling Program, will target the techniques and artistry of dressing hair by focusing on the elements and principles of design, critical to train the artistic eye.

In order to register for the Master Styling Program, stylists must complete two pre-requisite courses; Standards of Long Hairdressing, where stylists learn a myriad of skills including proper hair preparation, blow dry techniques, understanding how to control long hair with easy securing techniques, creation of simple bases from ponytails, back brushing, pinning and braiding. They will also perfect the art of back brushing for volume, mass or control. The second pre-requisite course is Classic Styling, where stylists will concentrate on ironwork skills and how to make classic updo styles current through the use of easy-to-execute techniques that can be combined to create textures and shapes.

After finishing pre-requites, stylists will be eligible to enroll in the intense 4-day The Master Styling Program. This program offers in-depth analysis of the elements of design, scientific understanding behind the chemistry of hair and styling products, mastery of hair setting techniques, an inspirational visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and an Avant-garde editorial photo shoot. The program, developed by Wella Studio Signature Artist Oliver Shortall and Wella Studio Artistic Director Diego Raviglione, will premiere this summer at the Wella Studio Los Angeles.

“This course isn’t just for stylists interested in competitions or editorial photo shoots, this program is for every stylist who is dedicated to their craft and wants to create beautiful hair” says Shortall.
