It’s not often someone with long hair just wants to chop it all off, so when they do, Ruth Roche, Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, is in! Roche recently cut long one-length hair to a pixie and it was just what her young client wanted to add a little edge.
“When Langston asked me to cut her long hair off into a pixie, I said no way because we all know that going from long to super short can really freak someone out, but when I realized that was what she truly wanted, I was in,” says Roche.
Get the Look:
- Section out a horseshoe section on top.
- Use razor to shape perimeter.
- With hair mostly dry, use shears to create more movement and texture.
- Use horizontal sections on top working towards the back of the head, keeping longer at occipital.
- Take all hair on one side of the head into one section and pull to the side of the head, removing length so it falls to mid ear. Repeat on other side.
- Cut the front from short to long on both sides so part can be flipped.
- Use freehand texturizing techniques to create more texture.
- Rough-dry to see how hair is falling.
- Elevate top section straight up and point cut to remove weight and to create even more texture and movement on top.
- Work Pureology Colour Stylist Density Definer crème wax throughout hair to define texture.
- Freehand texturize large sections cutting long to short.
Voila, long to pixie! “One of the things that makes this cut so appealing to someone who had long hair is the front is longer than the sides and back, so even though it’s a short cut, it gives the illusion of length around the face which is where most people want to see it,” adds Roche.
