The No-Haircut Haircut by Ruth Roche

For clients looking to try something new or test out a short 'do before comitting, Ruth Roche, global artistic ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care, has come up with a way to give the appearance of a short without any scissors involved.

“This is a technique stylists can use to show guests what their hair could look like shorter or with bangs, without actually cutting the hair. It gives a more realistic picture of their options,” she said. “In addition, it can come in handy on a shoot if you have a certain look in mind but can’t find a model who wants to cut her hair.”

Roche says preparing the hair before styling is very important; it has to have enough texture and friction to hold together when pins are put in.  Blow dry hair with Pureology Colour Stylist Root Lift and Pure Volume Instant Levitation Mist to create that extra bulk and grab for a strong foundation.

No Haircut Haircut – long hair to a bob:

• Divide hair into 3 undone sections – back and two sides.
• Back: Twist to shorten the length and then flip the ends over the crown to the front.  Insert bobby pins into the hair and then flat against the head to secure.  The ends will look like fringe.
• Sides: Bring hair back behind the ear, twist, flip it up and let the ends fall back down. Adjust so that where the ends land is where the length should be.  Pin to secure.  Repeat on other side and match the length of the first side…or not.
• Use hands to position and style hair and spray with Pureology Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray to hold in place.
