Jo Blackwell-Preston: The most important thing for me is to be present and to live life in the moment. I’m married to a DJ, so music is a huge inspiration for me. Anything can inspire me—from a leaf on a tree to a child’s laughter. [pagebreak]

Pepper Pastor: What I find inspiring are textiles, shapes, architecture, my friends, and people who make me laugh. I’m really inspired right now by children’s hairstyles and braid-work—updating and modernizing to make these trends somehow unique and elegant for all. I also love and am inspired by manipulating product and learning how to make it work for me to create a specific look. [pagebreak]

Jennifer MacDougall: I’m super-inspired by Intercoiffure’s show and being with a company that’s French and the Parisian house of hairdressing. I love perfecting smooth hair and working with Audrey Hepburn-esque classic shapes. [pagebreak]

James Morrison: What inspires me is the combination of nature and fashion. I live in a beach community; there’s a lot of surfing going on. The youthfulness and the energy that the surf culture creates brings out a lot of great shapes and ideas. Also, my kids inspire me. And a child’s hair texture—who doesn’t want that? With my clients, I strive to re-create that feel with their own hair. [pagebreak]

Drew Schaefering: I really believe that each client and each head of hair should be approached differently. I get a lot of my inspiration from the clients that I work with and the cultures that they come from. Outside of that, what I bring to them is my culture of music, fashion, art and hair. Strong shapes are very in, as well as soft lines—both are suitable for the majority of my clients. [pagebreak]

Heath Grout: I’m big into film, photography, skateboarding, TV, art and music. I really get inspired by just being around inspiring people. Going out into NYC itself is an inspiration for me. [pagebreak]

Amit Abraham: Keeping that openness to anything that comes my way—whether it be music, art or a television show. Whatever it is needs to be organic; my inspirations are always changing.
