Out with the old and in with the new…to be competitive in today’s market, a salon has to get digital. Even if the salon isn’t, any stylist can use a smartphone or iPad to make their consultation more interactive and results more predictable. Dominique DeFrancesco, stylist at De La Mer Salon (Bellmore, NY), says it’s especially useful when the seasons change and guests are looking for something new. Why? Because a visual of the new look can be shown to the guest BEFORE the service, so they can actually see if they like the look on themselves.
Redken's Guido explains: "It’s a bit boyish and inspired by Sade, who was an English singer in the 80s, but it’s got some height in the font and it’s kind of squared off, meaning it’s not a pulled back, round ponytail. I started by blow drying the hair very smooth using Redken’s guts 10 and shape factor 22, which I applied at the forehead and just raked through with my fingers because it’s got that great hold and adds a little bit of lift.
To create a truly couture hairstyle for the runway at Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2016 show, Redken Global Creative Director Guido used a needle and thread to sew the models’ hair into beautiful, romantic updos. "This season, Sarah [Burton] wanted a look that was very touchable and real, but I couldn’t leave the hair too real because we needed to find a way to still make it very McQueen," said Guido. "I thought about putting fabric into a sewing machine and then pulling it out again.
Music and the collection’s mashup of pop art color and rock ‘n’ roll edge was the creative inspiration for the high impact, multi-textured style hair look at ACNE’s SS16 Paris Fashion Week Show. “We’ve taken lots of different musical influences including one of my rock ‘n’ roll idols, Lemmy from Motorhead. The look blends the raw power of rock a sci-fi inspired techno fringe – it’s a real tour de force,” said Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman. “Our message is very strong and pure.
For the 8th Annual Supima Design Competition during Paris Fashion Week, the cotton brand showed winning looks from students of top design schools. Inspired by the unique pairing of cotton-made evening wear, Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman created a youthful and wearable style. “This flower petal-shaped knot is fanned out for an edgy, but refined look,” Reyman says. “Showing in the heart of Paris, I wanted the hair to be high-fashion and fun.”
To embrace the individuality of the girls at Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2016 show, Redken Global Creative Director Guido used Redken’s satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to enhance each girl’s hair texture before creating a custom, natural style. "The hair at Loewe is very individual – it’s all about the girls’ personalities," said Guido. "Some have their hair back, some have it down and natural. I prepped the hair with Redken’s satinwear 02 and water and then rough blow dried the hair to keep the natural texture, which gives that luxurious, rich finish.”
