Tat You

Tat You
Up your clients’ fierce factor with temporary tattoos.

Remember when you prayed your box of Cracker Jacks contained that cool-as-can-be temporary tattoo? Well, childhood dreams can come true: Those seeking a less permanent form of skin ink will be happy to know that the runways are alive with temporary tats, and this trend is becoming the add-on beauty adornment du jour. “Adventurous women who want to make a statement, but don’t want the commitment of a real tattoo, are choosing temporary tattoos,” notes JP McCary, VP of global artistry for TEMPTU. “These temporary tattoos allow them to partake in the trend without the commitment—or as we sometimes say, the regret.”

Though hand-painting and airbrushing tattoos using alcohol-based formulations is one avenue to giving your clients a temporary tattoo fix, companies like TEMPTU have developed increasingly sophisticated, long-wearing transfers. McCary has these tips for making tat transfers last:

Tat Tip #1: Always prep skin before applying the tattoo. Use 70% isopropyl alcohol, which will remove any existing oil or lotions.

Tat Tip #2: Extend the tattoo’s life by applying a setting powder after showering and swimming, and before going to bed.

Tat Tip #3: Avoid fragrance and oils at the site of the tattoo to increase its longevity.
