Patrick Mcivor Headshot Hi Res

Most salons are savvy enough to have an arsenal of social media accounts by now, but if they are not utilizing them properly, they are not business-building tools. Patrick McIvor, Artistic & TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California, one of the first in the industry to embrace and master social media, shares 4 FREE social media ideas a month on his YouTube Channel. The ideas are geared toward connecting salons and stylists with their communities to help them build their businesses and go viral.

Each video has a theme for the month and offers 4 ideas that salons can implement immediately for direct results. The ideas fall under the following categories:

1. Direction on images to create Pinterest Boards and Facebook Albums

2. A check-in idea to excite guests and increase exposure for the salon

3. An in-salon idea to engage and retain currents guests

4. An idea for building business outside the salon to increase customer base

Whether a salon has a digital director or not, it can be challenging to be consistently active and impactful, having a strategy for each month and specific ideas to clearly communicate to the staff helps streamline the process. McIvor advises not to waste time surfing, instead set limits and stick to a plan that concentrates on increasing web presence.

“It’s also important to post more than once a day, I like posting 3 times a day… since Facebook is basically the operating system for all other social media, make sure you link all platforms to it to maximize visibility,” says McIvor.
