Matrix celebrity stylist Mark Townsend sat in on Reese Witherspoon’s Rodarte dress fitting, and notes that “I loved the way Reese casually pulled her hair back so she could try on the dress.” Working off of this casual-cool feel, Townsend created a low, uneven knot with loose pieces. “The end result was a very modern, confident hairstyle,” he says.

When Witherspoon later jetted to the Vanity Fair after-party, Townsend pulled down the chignon, curled 3” sections to impart luscious, deconstructed waves, and then “sprayed on Vavoom Shapemaker Hairspray for hold so she could dance all night!”
