NYFW Fall 2013 Makeup: Joanna Mastroianni

For a second season in a row, Kryolan Professional Makeup collaborated with American designer Joanna Mastroianni for the debut of her Fall 2013 Collection at New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week .

Inspired by the 1968 French-Italian film Barbarella, Mastroianni puts a contemporary twist on this highly motivated, ultra sexy and in-control woman through a collection of structured silhouettes, copper and amethyst tones & feminine couture gowns.

Kryolan’s key makeup artist, Kelly Thompson, created a young, modern and soft makeup look to compliment the line’s patterns, colors and silhouettes, all of which were created with the 1960’s maven in mind.

For a flawless face, Thompson smoothed out the girls’ complexion using Kryolan’s Ultrafoundation. The look was then sheered out with Kryolan’s HD Micro Primer to achieve a light to medium light coverage so that the skin would “shine through.” A soft cheek was applied next using the Cream Blusher in Coral on the cheek bone, sweeping upwards into the hairline. Cream Blusher in SF3 (tan) was mixed in the outer cheek bone to achieve an extremely blended flush, which began to slightly darken as it faded into the hair line.

The eyes were a crucial part of the look for Joanna Mastroianni, as Thompson wanted to make a statement, without looking overly defined. Using the V1 Variety Eye Shadow Compact, H23 (gold peach) was swept from the lash line to the eyebrow.  From the same palette, GY (taupe) was applied in the crease starting 1/3 in from the inside corner of the eye, continuing to the outside. Anthracite (smoky grey), from the V3 Variety Eye Shadow Compact Natural Palette was applied under the eye from the outside to the middle while Highlight was applied under the eye from the middle to the inside corner. Four single lashes were applied to the outside of the eye (#9378 mediums) and were then swept out at the corner to create a slight cat eye, yet keeping it soft and blended.

To finalize the look, lips were lined with #125 and blended out so no hard line would be present. Thompson then filled in the center of the bottom lip with Lip Classic LC 121 (raspberry), and blotted the lip 2-3 times so the color was just barely pink. Beige and Gold from the Lip Shine Wheel were also added to the bottom to create a shiny lip, giving the models an easy elegance to match the metallic eyes.
