How to Wrap Dry Hair | Sam Villa Tutorial

Wrap Dry

Sam Villa, Founding Partner of Sam Villa, Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, and Stylist Choice Award Winner for Favorite Overall Educator of the Year 2015, says the best way to dry hair fast and create a polished finish is by wrap drying.

“Whether you want to direct hair away from the face, create a sleek ponytail or create a foundation for volume, wrap drying is the first step because it removes moisture quickly and creates a polished finish,” says Villa.

Tips on How to Wrap Dry Hair

  • Apply Redken pillow proof blow dry primer cream and then layer Redken satinwear 02 blow dry lotion over it to protect hair from heat, provide glide for the brush and to add a glossy finish.
  • Hold a Sam Villa Signature Series Paddle Brush parallel to the grain of the hair, open the brush to pick up hair, close it (point bristles towards the head) and slowly wrap hair around the side, back and nape areas of the head with the Sam Villa Professional Ionic Blow Dryer pointed directly at the hair with the nozzle on a diagonal to follow the shape of the head. Brush with the dryer trailing through the ends.
  •  Repeat until entire head is dry.
  • “Keep two factors in mind - slow down the pass of the dryer so it can heat the hair to dry it faster and always brush hair in the direction of the cuticle to promote control and shine,” adds Villa.

Note for Ponytail's: If preparing for a ponytail, wrap dry hair away from the face - begin with vertical sections in back area of head, working sections forward towards face.
