Hair Tips: Summer Blondes

Summer can be a daunting time for blondes who spend a fortune on their color, sun, chlorine and salt water are all major threats to contrast and tone. Michael Noragon, KMS® California North American Artistic Director and co-owner of b space salon (Salt Lake City, UT) shares a summer blonde formula and maintenance tip.

Formula:

Natural Level 6 lifted with Goldwell® SilkLift Strong and 6%.

Toned with Goldwell® Topchic® 10p 10v equal parts and 3% to maintain color during the sunny summer months.

“I remind clients that they wouldn't leave the house without sunscreen for their skin, they should not leave without protection for their hair as well,” says Noragon.

Noragon suggests beginning the protection process right at the shampoo bowl/shower with the use of KMS® California Color Vitality Shampoo and Conditioner. They’re formulated with UV protection and optical brighteners to make color very reflective. Then, a leave-in conditioner to provide UV filters, moisture, and care for stressed out tresses. Noragon likes KMS® California MOISTREPAIR revival creme. “I consider this to be a light weight lotion, once applied, it can be combed through and air dried to reduce the stress of heat from a dryer, or it can be styled into the hair for weightless care,” explains Noragon.

Other Options:

·Mix up where the part is placed and where ponytails and buns are located to ensure that fadage does not happen in the same spot all the time.
·Get a Goldwell® Express Toner to add shine and refine blonde - only takes 5 minutes!
·Tone one shade darker to offset fadage.
·Shampoo with warm/cool, not hot water and wash hair less often.
·Wear a scarf or hat for protection.

“Your work is your best advertisement, so it’s in your best interest to keep your summer blondes looking fresh between appointments. A faded off-tone blonde is not going to get asked, ‘where do you get your hair colored?’” explains Patrick McIvor, Artistic & TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California and social media mentor.
