Makeup Styles FASHION: Joanna Mastroianni NYFW Spring/Summer 2013
Kryolan Professional Makeup collaborated with American designer Joanna Mastroianni for the debut of her Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Inspired by Mastroianni’s own garden, mod designs from the 1960’s and the fashion-forward woman, the collection consisted of flowing dresses, tailored tuxedos and everything in between. Kryolan’s key makeup artist Dominic Cruz created a retro, vibrant makeup look to compliment the line’s patterns, colors and silhouettes, all of which were created with nature and the styles of the 1960’s in mind.
For a flawless face, Cruz created the perfect canvas using Kryolan’s Ultra Under Base primer, followed by Kryolan’s Dermacolor Camouflage Cream, created to conceal skin abnormalities of all types. He used a soft taupe color and a contouring blush brush to contour the cheeks and chisel the cheekbones, but did not use any traditional blush in the look.
The eyes were a crucial part of the look for Joanna Mastroianni. Cruz used Kryolan’s Eye Shadow in AB25 (a bright yellow) as the dominant color and faded it into Kryolan’s Eye Shadow in RB40 (a vibrant magenta), applying both at a slight angle. Cruz then heavily lined the eyes, both above and below, using Kryolan’s Eye Shadow in Black. The look was completed with Twiggy-inspired lashes, using Kryolan’s Upper Lashes in F-3 on the top and Kryolan’s Underlashes in U1 on the bottom outer corners.
To finish the look, Cruz created a bright magenta lip using Kryolan’s Lip Pencil #910 and Kryolan’s Dermacolor Light Lip Rouge in DL15. The lips were completed with a swipe of Kryolan’s High Gloss Lip Shine in Fairy over the entire top lip and middle of the bottom lip.
