Hair Styles EVENTS: Women on Top

Alyblog1

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I love seeing women help other women. It doesn’t seem to happen often enough, though I do feel that those in our wonderful world of beauty truly do make strides to help one another.

Of course, I couldn’t say no when celebrity stylist Sean James invited me backstage as he did the hair for many of the presenters and honorees at the Women in Film Awards, held in Los Angeles. And although the night saw a host of celebrities, including Meryl Streep, Viola Davis and Christina Applegate, just to name a few, those names are not what I’ll remember most about the evening—what I will remember is the bond that connected each woman in the room.

“I love this event,” James smiled as he tended to the tresses of television star Jaime Murray backstage. “I consider myself a predominately ‘women’s hairdresser,’ although I also do men’s grooming. It’s just so important to give a boost to these women who have striven to help others while blazing their own paths in the entertainment industry.”

“It’s true,” agreed fashion stylist Joey Tierney, who had just finished having her hair tended to by James. “It’s incredible to have women supporting each other. So many people are still under the impression that it’s a men’s world. We want to show that women have really persevered—we’re at the top of our game.”
