Get the Look: Rashida Jones' Super-Sleek Strands

After a fall/winter season of updos, chignons, and artfully disheveled braided 'dos, the hair looks that appeared on the spring/summer 2015 runways were deceptively simple: often effortlessly straight and undone, perhaps tucked casually behind one ear. Way ahead of the trend, actress Rashida Jones, with her long, shiny tresses, epitomizes this simple, sophisticated look. For an appearance on The Late Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last November, celebrity hairstylist Jim Crawford styled Rashida Jones to shining perfection.

If your client is looking for the perfect style that's right in sync with spring and summer's fresh black and white fashion palette, and silhouettes with crisp, clean lines, look no further. Below, join Jim Crawford behind the scenes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he reveals how he got Rashida Jones ready for the camera. "Although Rashida wanted a natural look for her long, straight hair, she also wanted volume throughout," says Jim. "Layering my favorite René Furterer products allows me to resolve any issues such as fly-aways. I love to add shine and softness along with giving hair a pliability that lasts throughout the day. The formulas give me the help I need in restoring the hair's condition, which gives me better end results, without weighing the hair down."

  1. Says Jim, "I start off using René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray on every one of my clients and Rashida is no exception. I spray it from roots to ends, and it quickly detangles, tames fly-always and adds volume to the hair.
  2. "Next, I layered René Furterer KARITÉ leave-in nourishing cream and René Furterer KARITÉ leave-in repairing serum from the ends of the hair up to the mid-shaft. This is a must-have duo to protect the ends of any hair longer than chin-length and helped to make Rashida's long hair softer and shinier, while maintaining the moisture balance on the ends. Also, Rashida had added purple hair color to the ends of her long hair, so I wanted to make sure the ends were protected against any heat damage from my styling tools.
  3. "To add natural-looking texture throughout Rashida's beautiful her long hair as well as more volume at the roots I used René Furterer NATURIA dry shampoo.
  4. "For Rashida's blowout, I used a medium-sized round brush with a ceramic center and boar bristles, which works like a hot roller, over-directing the roots for maximum volume and smoothness all the way to the ends.
  5. "To blow-dry Rashida's bangs, I used my hands to keep them flatter to the face-this helps to create more length to frame her eyes. Next, I finished the ends with a small flat iron, just enough to bend them for a more polished appearance.
  6. "Last, I used the lightweight René Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY to control the volume in the crown. A few strategic spritzes also helped with any other last-minute fine-tuning I needed to do."
