Get the Look: 2 Major Hair Color Trends for 2016

Kate Reid, Director of Education, COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY, predicts that the pastel hair color trend will get a fresh, new look this year. With Rose Quartz and Serenity named Pantone Color of the Year shades for 2016, pastels are sure to remain a top trend - but now they're headed in a different direction. Reid anticipates a more avant-garde approach to the popular hair color look, combining soft hues with precious metal-inspired shades like platinum for an edgy, modern result.

Another hair color trend to look for in 2016? Mixed metals. Inspired by fashion, and the mixing of silver and gold jewelry, the mixed metal trend bends the rules on color. Instead of sticking to one metallic shade family, this look embraces a fusion of rose golds, pewter, silver and 14k gold hues for a soft, fresh, perfectly balanced and blended finish. Use an intense jewel-inspired pastel shade with a cool, muted edgy tone using a mix of blonde foils to keep it commercial and on-trend, yet feminine and wearable.

  1. Apply SILVER shades in a slice placed on an angle to create heavy color through the front sections of the head. Due to the shade being so soft, if it’s not placed in a heavy manner, it won’t be seen.
  2. Take a diamond section on the top of the head. Foil out blonde foils on all edges of the diamond.
  3. Apply soft but intense ROSE QUARTZ shade through the diamond section in a solid form.
  4. Develop and apply FINISHING REGIME.

STYLING

  1. Detox the hair with MAXI.WASH and HYDRATE.ME WASH & RINSE. Towel-dry.
  2. Apply ANTI.GRAVITY to the hair then apply YOUNG.AGAIN to the hair for smoothness and repair.
  3. Blow-dry and smooth with large round brush.
  4. Brush through hair, including fringe section to smooth the hair without flattening it.
  5. Apply POWDER.PUFF in root area down to nose for loose volume and turn head up for extra body.
  6. Apply SESSION.SPRAY to finish. For extra shine, apply SHIMMER.SHINE.
