Fall 2012 Fashion Trends

Fall fashion doesn't see dramatic differences and updates from spring, as revamped versions of trends like floral, metallics and contrasting shades and patterns, continue on into the cooler season. While floral plays a role in fashion through Baroque patterns, this fall femininity takes on a stronger role through the inspirations from military and Goth, infusing darker shades and more structured styles to this season's trends.

Aristocrat

Pencil skirts, wide brim hats, belted dresses, suits and jumpsuits dominate this look. Academy of Art fashion schools showcased this style in their part of the fashion show for fall 2012 utilizing subtle colors and darker shades. Contrasting collars can add edge to your look while pale grey dresses and winter whites are nearly impossible to fail with. Baroque patterns take aristocracy back to the beginning with prints decorating everything from clothing to accessories.

Wine

Red and burgundy shades of wine are great ways to add color to any outfit this fall. Use wine shades of lip and nail color to add an extra 'pop' to your casual look. Christian Siriano's Bordeaux-inspired line incorporates wine colors with a patterned loose-fitting blouse tucked into a knee length satin skirt.

Leather

It's really difficult to go wrong with leather this season. A trending style of leather is the extreme waxy look, used best in jackets, skirts and boots. If shiny leather is too much for you, Michael Kors flawlessly incorporates leather into chic leather tops this season, while seasonal fashion can still be achieved through a subtle leather pencil skirt or suit jacket.

Authoritative

The military look is back! Think structure, simple lines and limited patterns. Buckles, structured collars and shoulders, and lace up boots can all help achieve this clean-cut look. Christian Louboutin masters the art of the authoritative boot with a below-the-knee black velvet, thick-heeled pump decorated with gold buckles along the side.

Gold and Glitter

Gold has been an ongoing trend in fashion and it isn't going anywhere this fall--but all that glitters isn't gold. Incorporate sparkle from all parts of the color wheel and incorporate these statement pieces to accessories like sparkle pumps, clutches and belts. Cutting edge designer Prabal Gurung brought gold and glitter to life with four different dresses, all using a shimmery look without going over the top. R.A.G. New York states that these looks are perfect for a New York night out.

Making a Statement

Overstated jewelry and statement pieces are huge this fall as brooches, collar necklaces and chokers lead this trend. Look to Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta's line for inspiration. Bags and shoes with noticeable embellishments decorated in gems and studs, furs and animal print accessories are another hot  trend.

Black & Blue

Mixing black and blue is gearing up to be the most useful and trendy look this fall. Try a royal blue tweed skirt with black tights or blue skinny pants matched with a black collared top and black boots or loafers. Bill Blass makes a stunning below-the-knee length pencil skirt with perfectly structured lines of black shaping the garnet along the sides--very flattering!
