Event Recap: Oribe Hair Care On The Road Comes to Los Angeles

On Monday, December 8th, Oribe brought Oribe Hair Care: On the Road - a full day of live demos, and hands-on education - to Los Angeles. Held at Milk Studios in Hollywood, the packed event allowed attending stylists a chance to learn, improve on, and master valuable skills and techniques.

The day began with a presentation and Q&A session with Smith & Cult co-founder Dineh Mohajer. The founder of the popular 90's brand, Hard Candy, discussed the inspiration behind her latest polish line - duality, passion, and real life in the form of imagined diary entries, and their corresponding shades. Mohajer also announced the line's 4 upcoming lacquers: Suburban Warrior (out January 2015), The Graduate, Pornathon, and Beat Street (all out March 2015).

The hair presentations were kicked off as the Oribe Education Team took the stage for live demos, led by Oribe Hair Care Educator Louis Orozco. Models took to the stage wearing extravagant masks, decorated with oversized flowers, rhinestones and paper. Oribe Hair Care Educator Kien Hoang described the inspiration behind the masks as stemming from 1978 fashion trends, ancient Egypt, and Elizabeth Taylor. Orozco and Hoang, along with Oribe Hair Care Creative Director of Styling Ronnie Stam, then proceeded to style the models' hair into three, unique, creative, and inspirational looks, involving colorful glitter, ultra-long extensions, and sculptured shaping to create the desired effects.

Next, hairstylist Coby Alcantar took to the stage for a live haircut presentation. Alcantar inspired the audience to get creative, showcasing her favorite techniques for creating a razor cut on dry hair that resulted in a contemporary, multidimensional cut with movement and interest.

The final live demo of the day showcased the new Wella Color.id hair color line, focusing on the concepts of "evolution" and "revolution," as well as innovation and hair color as an emotional experience for the client. The demonstration revealed how this new form of hair color allows the colorist to be more creative and intuitive without having to worry about bleeding, or unwanted tones. The end result: a gorgeous, dusty-orange, pink, and lavender hair color.

At the conclusion of the live demos, hairstylists were invited to get some hands-on education, recreating a luxe, French-inspired look that captured the overall spirit of creativity of the day. Once completed, stylists showcased their looks in a professional-style photo shoot.

The night ended with a toast to creativity, innovation and, as Daniel Kaner, Co-President of Oribe, put it, the idea that "mastery is a journey."
