Daphne Guinness at New York Fashion Week

A true hairdresser's dream come true... working New York Fashion Week was an exciting experience! This particularly long day (17 hours) was especially interesting as it included fashion, music, models, film, and a photo shoot. Magically set in a breathtaking venue, a beautiful old church has been transformed by the Angel Orensanz Foundation to an event space.

At this show, style icon and fashionista, Daphne Guinness debuted her short film entitled, The Legend of Lady White Snake. The film starring The Honourable Daphne Guinness herself, was based on a Chinese legend, directed by Indrani, and dedicated to the spirit of Alexander McQueen.

Still photos taken from the film showing Daphne in breathtaking couture were hanging throughout the halls. Photography duo Markus Klinko & Indrani's work is spectacular. The massive framed photos on display were each available for a $40,000 donation to charity.

I started my day crafting interesting up-styles for the Viva Girls. These 12 young women from China were not only beautiful but extremely talented. After the film debut, they played the most interesting, erie music.

Fashion Week hair guru, Jon Reyman, demonstrated how to build these intricate up-styles and the team set to work re-creating the shapes for each of the 12 girls. The labor intensive styles began first by crimping the entire head. Lots of firm holding hairspray was used to achieve a strong set. The hair was brushed out, divided, wires were attached, and the hair was teased and formed into cones.

See one of the Viva Girls and me after I did her hair. The girls had a photo shoot where they each posed with their instruments at the front of the church.

The makeup on the girls was stunning. The team from MAC Cosmetics with Senior Artist, Romero Jennings, expertly painted Fluideline Gel Liner to create the eyebrows!

Later we prepared the hair for 10 more gorgeous models. The grand finale to the event was runway show of fantastic, futuristic Gehnghis Khan fashions presented by GK Reid.
