Damage Control: Before and After by Denice Drost

Denice Drost is a stylist in Sherman, TX who specializes in transforming dry, damaged hair into gorgeously shiny, healthy locks. Recently, Denice helped a client with extremely damaged ends and about 8 inches of outgrowth revamp her look while maintaining the length and color of the client's hair.

Says Denice, "[The client] told me she wore [her hair] up every day in a bun… She asked me for a look that would transform her appearance, but with the stipulations that I not take too much off the overall length and that she had to stay blonde."

Step 3: Move to the right side section. Starting at the front hairline 1 inch above the temple, make a horizontal parting back to the crown. Clip top part away. At the part, take a 1/8-inch slice and do a thin weave. Put in foil and apply lightener on new growth only. Take a 1/8-inch slice and clip up out of the way. Continue this pattern all the way down the right side. Repeat on left side.

Step 4: Repeat the same pattern horizontally on top section of hair.

Step 5: Process until hair lifts to level nine.

Step 6: Rinse and shampoo with color endurance shampoo.

Step 7: Apply toner to towel dried hair from scalp to ends. This will cut out any yellow undertones and blend new lightened hair to the previous lightened ends.

Step 8: Rinse and condition with moisture recovery conditioner

Cut
My final touch to the reconstruction of the hair was the haircut. I feel it is very important when combing through the hair to avoid ripping it, so I decided to spray on a 10" leave in treatment to allow the comb to glide easily through the hair.
With the haircut, I chose to take 4 inches of the bottom length and add in some soft layering.

Style
It is also very important to choose the right products when styling the hair. I chose K-PAC smoothing balm, which helps aid in smoothing and protecting the hair from the heat of the blow dryer. I then finished off by blow-drying her hair using a 4-inch round brush to add volume and shine.
