When it comes to cutting hair, shape is everything. We know all too well that the right shape can flatter the client and ultimately dictate their satisfaction when leaving the chair. Hairstylist Andre Faiva got creative with shape with this collection, playing with different technique to give curly and straight locks different silhouettes. To do this, he used contrasting splices of hair color throughout the hair cut to create a slight textural difference. He used muted color tones, eggplant tones, greys, muted dirty violets and washed out denim.

To create a uniform look throughout, the same technique was used for each model. It is quite a simple technique, with a lot of contrasting color lately being focused through the mid-lengths and ends. Unlike balayage or ombré, he didn’t want to create as much contrast. So, with his secondary color, he only wanted 1-2 shades of difference.

The technique was inspired by the 1990s, with a base/global color roots to ends, but with medium and fine weaved foils with sliced foils as well roots to ends. This stops the foils appearing too stripy, and it also creates more of a natural texture with the secondary color. For each model, he placed his foils in a classic half head with diagonal foils through the sides, alternating between medium weaves, fine weaves and slices roots to ends with Wella Blondorplex Powder Lightner. He then applied the base/global color between the foils from roots to ends. Finally. the color was washed and the toners applied at the basin for 15 minutes. See each look for its corresponding formula.
