Celebrity colorist Debi Dumas, who has worked with Chelsea Handler and Candace Cameron Bure, among others, is known for creating her signature diffused highlights. Now, as Dancing with the Stars returns for another season, Dumas offers five, fun dance-inspired colors for coloring the stars.
Waltz: Platinum with a hint of pastel, such as cool, pale blue, or a whisper of lavender. The idea behind this look is very ethereal, and can be created by using an all-over bleach and tone. The result: a very grown-up, couture look - think Grace Kelly.
Jive/Contemporary: Modern, fun, playful soft waves with golden colors: a sophisticated beach look. This color can be created by painting on scattered, sun-kissed highlights of different blonde and/or golden-brown hues.
Tango: Intense red tones of ruby, fiery copper, or merlot. This look is sexy and hot! The look can be done by color blocking technique - back to back all-over color to add dimension for dull monochromatic tones - adds movement and breaks up a solid look.
Rhumba: Deep, rich espresso and/or earthy browns. The look can be shiny or matte, and pairs well with hair worn slicked back in a sleek, classic chignon. This color can be created by using a semi-permanent color which adds the shine and depth without the commitment.
Samba: Festive pieces of colored hair, or tips of bright lime green, yellow or pink. This look is great for parties or special occasions and can be done with extensions or even chalking for a bit of temporary fun. This look is for the girl who's the bold, fun and fearless type!
