The hairnet, although today thought of as a cafeteria mom’s must-have, has a very significant ‘hair story’ in women’s history. During World War Two in the 1940s, women joined the workforce in droves, taking over jobs traditionally done by men. By mid-1943, nearly 90 per cent of single women and 80 per cent of married women were employed in critical work for the war effort. Of course the elaborate long hairstyles of the time proved hazardous on the job.

Coming back to work after the holiday rush always makes me think about the past year: did I make more money? Did I grow my business? Did I achieve any of my goals? If you just heard a little voice ask: “What goals?” - pull up a chair, we need to talk.

Ahhh…summertime. The time of year when the sun lingers on our days, our hair and our minds. I grew up in England where it's common to visit the nearby Mediterranean countries like Spain, Turkey and Greece for a couple of weeks each summer. People would flock to the all-inclusive resorts where the pool was the place to see and be seen. Where the way you look while languishing poolside sipping fancy cocktails is part of the fun. Resort style is almost its own "season" in the world of fashion.

An interview with Emma Hack, the makeup artist behind the music video for Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" Gotye's hit song "Somebody That I Used to Know" is everywhere. The song is inescapable on the radio and even on television. What could be a better way to celebrate Grammy Awards weekend than with a rockstar blowout?! I stopped by the Grammy Pop-Up Beauty Bar at Cristophe Salon hosted by L'Oréal Professionnel Stylist Roy Teeluck for the most amazing blowout by stylist Mia Moore. Mia's secret ingredient was Roy Teeluck's signature "hair plumping" collagen product Concentre de Collagene. "The results from applying collagen to the hair and scalp are astonishing. It creates an enriched environment for hair to maintain its optimal health as it grows," explains Teeluck.

Last night the 2011 AMAs were held in Los Angeles, and though I love the musical performances, one my favorite things about award shows is checking out the fabulous fashion, makeup and hairstyles. I couldn't have been more excited when my new favorite discovery Hot Chelle Rae won the award for Favorite New Artist. And I have to say bassist Ian Keaggy's hair looked great.
