Beauty News: John Paul DeJoria Honored by The Dream Foundation

John Paul DeJoria recently received the Humanitarian Award at The Dream Foundation’s 2014 Celebration of Dreams Gala on November 8th, 2014. The Dream Foundation honored John Paul for the significant impact he has made through vital contributions to Dream Foundation programs, helping dream recipients and their families since 2002.

John Paul was honored alongside biotechnology company, Genentech, and graciously accepted his award from friend Bill Nicholson, longtime Dream Foundation supporter and Dream Maker. A video highlighting DeJoria’s tremendous philanthropic work played as he received his award, further distinguishing his dedication to giving back with the tagline “Giving Back is the New Black.”

In the spirit of the evening, John Paul spontaneously donated $100,000 to the Dream Foundation’s latest project, Dreams For Veterans, during his acceptance speech, further adding to his 10+ years of contributions to the organization. John Paul was received with a standing ovation as this generous contribution will further support dreams of U.S. military veterans.

“Veterans of this nation put their lives on the line every day to help maintain our way of life,” said John Paul. “On behalf of the families at John Paul Mitchell Systems and The Patron Spirits Company, and as a veteran myself, it is with great pride that I make this donation to help the new division of the Dream Foundation flourish on behalf of veterans nationwide.”

“John Paul DeJoria is a caring and accomplished humanitarian who has helped bring peace, comfort, and closure to countless dream recipients and their loved ones through the fulfillment of final dreams,” says Dream Foundation Executive Director, Kisa Heyer. "A true humanitarian, he lives each day by his renowned philosophy that ‘success unshared is failure,’ and he has demonstrated this through the time and resources he’s invested in making the world a better place for our dreamers.”

The Dream Foundation appreciates DeJoria’s generous support of their initiative in addition to the  numerous worldwide philanthropies he is involved with, including Grow Appalachia, a non-profit organization that aims to empower the hunger-stricken people of Appalachia; Reforest’Action, an environmental organization that plants trees worldwide in the areas where they're needed most; Waterkeeper Alliance, an environmental movement that is dedicated to protecting communities, ecosystems and waterways; and Bright Pink, the only national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. His latest campaign #GIVINGISMYSTYLE supports many of his ongoing charity partners through an online initiative that encourages charitable giving via social media engagement.

In addition to generous donations and an outpouring of support, the evening also featured a celebrity red carpet, silent and live auctions, world-class entertainment and moving testimonials from Dream Foundation friends and supporters.
