Beauty News: Attend Paul Mitchell Schools' Caper 2015

John Paul Mitchell Systems and Paul Mitchell Schools cordially invite you to the upcoming Caper 2015, hosted by Paul Mitchell Schools. Guest appearances include comedienne Kathy Buckley, motivational speaker Lizzie Velasquez, men’s grooming expert Diana Schmidtke, salon owner and philanthropist Eden Sassoon (daughter of Vidal Sassoon), Thirst Project founder Seth Maxwell, and other surprise guests.

This year's guest appearances:

Gifted comedienne, award-winning actress, accomplished author, and renowned inspirational speaker Kathy Buckley returns to Caper for the fourth year with her powerful message of courage and hope. Billed as America’s first hearing-impaired comedienne, Kathy has appeared on The Tonight Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, Entertainment Tonight, and Extra. Born deaf but misdiagnosed as mentally retarded, Kathy’s inspiring story and tireless work for the No Limits theater program for deaf children have made her a huge favorite among Paul Mitchell’s future professionals.

Making her second Caper appearance, Lizzie Velasquez has a rare medical condition that doesn’t let her gain weight or create muscle. At age 25, she weighs 60 pounds and has zero percent body fat. When an Internet video calling her “The World’s Ugliest Woman” went viral, Lizzie set out to discover what truly makes people beautiful. Now a popular author, speaker, and college graduate, Lizzie shares her story around the world.

Alvin Law was one of the 13,000 babies around the world born with deformities in the early 1960s because of Thalidomide, a morning sickness drug. Born without arms at a time when handicapped children were either relegated to institutions or segregated from “normal” students, Alvin attended regular schools where remarkable teachers worked with his family to encourage the potential they saw in him. He became an award-winning musician, graduated from high school and college with honors, and embarked on a career in broadcasting. He also worked in advertising, public relations, and government service before becoming a full-time professional speaker.

“Our students will attend many shows throughout their careers,” said Paul Mitchell Schools’ Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh. “We want their first show to set the bar high, giving them not only nonstop education and fashion but also bringing them inspiration and motivation that will change their lives and leave them hungry for life-long learning.”

The two-day event features education and inspiration from Paul Mitchell Cofounder and CEO John Paul DeJoria, Co-owner Angus Mitchell, Global Artistic Director Robert Cromeans, and Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh. Hands-On Cutting, Color, and Makeup classes, along with Look & Learn classes will be brought to you by artists such as Stephanie Kocielski, Takashi Kitamura, Lucie Doughty, Vivienne Mackinder, and many more!

Caper 2015 Event Schedule:

Future Professionals arrive, check in, and pick up their swag bags on Monday, February 9, then visit the Mall and Career Connection to mingle with salon representatives, see live demonstrations on styling and cutting, practice their interview skills, and learn about career opportunities throughout the world. Future Professionals can also play in the Visionary Lounge; shop in the Peace, Love, and Happiness Mall; and participate in cutting, styling, and makeup mini-classes throughout the afternoon and evening. Monday night is a “free night.”

On Tuesday, February 10, Paul Mitchell Co-founder and CEO John Paul DeJoria, Co-owner Angus Mitchell, Global Artistic Director Robert Cromeans, and Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Co-founder Winn Claybaugh kick Caper off with a warm welcome. The one-hour stage show includes two segments starring the Future Professional Design Team: led by Advanced Academy members Mike Helm, Audra Turner, Kate Russell, Nikki Ramos, Fernie Andong, and Brandon Palmore, the student Design Team will do hair, makeup, and modeling in the opening and barbering segments. Next up: exciting presentations by the artists and educators who will lead the classroom rotations later that day. After the opening show, cosmetology students rotate through four classes (Cutting, Color, Style, and Look and Learn). Skin care students spend their day in Hands-On Makeup, plus Look and Learn. Day one ends with a favorite Paul Mitchell tradition: the White Party, where Future Professionals can enjoy “photo ops” with their favorite educators and dance the night away.

Wednesday, February 11 features a main-stage show filled with inspiration and motivation, plus a special appearance by the show team from Floyd’s Barbershop.
