Luxury, Hollywood VIPs, Joico and a great cause all came together recently at Los Angeles' annual Cure in the Canyons event for breast cancer research.
The cause: the fourth annual Cure in the Canyons event to sustain breast cancer reseach. The setting: a bucolic private estate in one of So Cal’s rustic canyons. The scene: a delightful mix of premium beauty, wellness, wine, chefs and music. The celebs: Kyle Richards of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, All My Children’s Tonya Pinkins, Twilight Saga’s Boo Boo Stewart, Jessica Hall of Hollywood 411 and Burned, and Katie Cleary of Deal or No Deal and Chuck, along with reps of the Hollywood “behind the scenes” elite.
Joico celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas, who regularly coiffs Nicole Richie, Miley Cyrus and Megan Fox at the Andy LeCompte Salon in West Hollywood, volunteered to man the Joico Luxury Cabana for the day, where he created relaxed styles and updos for Cure in the Canyons guests. He was joined by Joico advisors Nicole Suite of Champion’s Hair Salon in Orange County and Guy Tang of J.W. Goodson’s in Long Beach. In the fight against breast cancer, the stylists’ weapon of choice was appropriate—the special edition pink Joico K-PAK ReconstRx VaporIron.

The limited edition pink iron was created as part of Joico’s Beauty for a Cure initiative—a program designed to help beauty professionals organize, run and participate in breast cancer-related fundraisers. That made it the ideal tool for the idyllic Cure in the Canyon event, which earmarked all proceeds for a variety of National Cancer Institute facilities, including the City of Hope, the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the USC Norris Lee Breast Center.
Veterans of the L.A. fundraising circuit whisper that Cure in the Canyons is the luxury lifestyle-fest of the season, with plenty of pampering in a stunning setting, all for an important outcome. This year, Joico and the K-PAK ReconstRx VaporIron made it a more memorable afternoon than ever! —Amy Dodds
