What happens when a Seattle girl leaves the Pacific Northwest for a sojourn in the Big Apple? That was the self-posed question Thakoon Panichgul contemplated before conceiving his Fall 2014 designs. The result? Earthy knits and bold floral prints enhance structured tulip skirts and tailored pants, in keeping with his signature casual-chic style.
Mane maven Odile Gilbert for Kérastase Paris complements these creations with “Gym Chic” hairdos that are simultaneously natural and sleek. “Imagine a girl who’s just finished working out,” Gilbert says. “She’s sweating, so her hair is a bit wet in front.” Texture-building Kérastase Paris Spray A Porter beach spray is first applied to damp locks, which Gilbert then blows dry with a boar bristle paddle brush. Using a healthy amount of Lift Vertige gel and only her fingertips, Gilbert next roughens up the hairline, slicking strands off foreheads for an extreme wet look. Touche Perfection, an innovative on-the-go nourishing treatment for dry ends, lends front pieces additional shine. In the back, tresses have an opposite appearance: fluffy, matte and loose, achieved via multiple applications of Powder Bluff dry shampoo.
Au natural glam is best expressed with healthy, luminous features, so NARS Cosmetics artist Diane Kendal starts by using NARS Skin Luminous Moisture Cream to hydrate and boost brightness. Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer (both ideal for all dermis types) even skin tones, hide dark circles and blur the appearance of fine lines. A few dabs of pearl-hued Copacabana Illuminator are all cheeks need for dewy sheen. “I love this light-reflecting liquid because it not only enhances the complexion, but it also creates a shimmering incandescence that’s extremely alluring,” Kendal raves. Eyes don’t need a lot: A thin swipe of creamy, coffee-colored Mambo Eyeliner Pencil contours upper lids, while the Chocolate side of Dolomites Duo Eyeshadow (debuting this fall) is smudged smokily with a contoured brush under lower lash lines.
Manis match eyes in terms of color. Gina Edwards glosses active-length, rounded-square nails with Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer in "Latte Please," a moody mushroom shade. “Morgan Taylor debuted last summer, so it’s a new collection, and we concept original polish pigments each season,” informs Edwards. “This one was ideal for Thakoon because it’s fresh, like a Seattle girl would be, yet still boasts a funky, artsy twist.”
