2014 Oscars Beauty: Kerry Washington's Glam Hair and Nails

Actress Kerry Washington looked simply stunning on last night's Oscars red carpet wearing a dusty purple, strapless Jason Wu gown, a beautiful beachy hair look and deep, velvety, plum-colored nails.

The Hair:
Celebrity stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew used HairArt tools and Neutrogena products to create a soft, flowing hairstyle to complement Washington's gorgeous gown. Says Sturdivant-Drew, "“I was completely inspired by her amazing dress, and knew I had to create a longer, goddess effect with hair falling on the shoulder. I made the look fresh and beachy with a left part, volume on top and back, and sides sleekly pulled back to frame the face. The hair was styled to fall forward on the left side.

“I started with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Shampoo and Neutrogena Triple Repair Conditioner, which Kerry uses every day for a really nice shine and healthy condition. I then blow dried the hair using a HairArt H3000 Dryer 1800 using a vent brush, pulling hair up and away to give it texture. I like this dryer because it is lightweight, gets hot but not too hot, and leaves the hair looking smooth. Next, I used HairArt H3000 Heat Brush Pro to created volume at the roots, especially in the crown area. I pulled hair on right side tight and pinned, then did the same on the left, adding a bit more height at the crown for balance and volume, then pinned. Finally, I used a HairArt iTech Infrared 450 Flat Iron to separate the ends and create subtle suggestion of a wave without any curl.”

The Nails:
Celebrity manicurist and butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador Katie Jane Hughes wanted to create a shade inspired by the lipstick Washington wore at the London premiere of Django Unchained for the Scandal star's red carpet nail look. To achieve the look, Hughes began by painting the nails with two coats of butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in La Moss as a base. She then applied a layer of Nail Lacquer in Saucy Jack to make the nails a bit more red. To finish the look, Hughes used butter LONDON’s Matte Finish Shine Free Topcoat to make the nails look velvety.
