2014 Oscars Beauty: Jena Malone's 1920s Marcel Waves

Jena Malone at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014; hair by Bobby Eliot for Oribe

nspired J. Mendel lace dress to this year's Vanity Fair Oscar Party. To complement her ensemble, hairstylist Bobby Eliot gave Malone '20s-style Marcel waves with a low side part. "We wanted to play off the vintage quality of the dress and keep the look feminine and soft," Eliot said.

Eliot started the look by applying Oribe Foundation Mist all over damp hair, followed with Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse at the roots. He then blow-dried the hair using a boar-bristle round brush and pinned up the hair into a curl set to create extra root lift. Once the hair was dry, Bobby made a deep side part and sprayed the hair section by section with hairspray, then finger-waved the hair with a 1-inch curling iron starting in the front and working his way back around the head. After the waves cooled and set, Bobby brushed out the hair gently with a Mason Pearson brush and sculptedthe waves in a soft S-shape. He finished the look with a shine spray for a high-gloss finish.
